Since this was a media stay, I had pictured myself sweeping into the hotel like an elegant travel writer; long curls flowing, oversized sunglasses perched just so, and a beautiful red Spanish cotton skirt. Reality, of course, had other plans. I showed up 90 minutes late to meet my husband, flustered and frazzled, crouched on the lobby floor rifling through my bag for my phone, my skirt ballooning around me like a melting wicked witch, curls sprung out like Madusa. My husband was a bit astonished to see me in such disarray and walked away to let me do me all on my own. I hate it when he walks away. I thought Knights in Shining Armor didn't ever take breaks?
My lateness came from having a day dealing with things that don't come easily for me; like being an adult, and naturally I had to get outside to recover in the beautiful summer evening light. Hiking up Arbaney I got the call that my mother has a nice man calling her in her Independent living place promising her all she's ever wanted; 5 million dollars and a Mercedes. This staycay was a necessity.
With reservations at 7 p.m. so we could make it to the concerts there was no time to lament that not only was the welcome basket not as good as my first media stay, a jar filled with nostalgic old-fashioned candy alongside a spread of homemade treats; cough drops, lollipops, snicker bars, pop tarts, hot chocolate and Gatorade, as if the hotel had been waiting all day for the arrival of a family with three young boys, but sadly, there actually wasn't one at all.
We quickly got out of the hotel via the Viceroy shuttle for dinner at Il Poggio and had two Lambruscos and gluten-free pizza, possibly the best I've ever had. Upon returning to the room, we dawned our plush bathrobes and slippered it through the lobby to the three tiered hot tub to soak under the stars.
Somehow, during our stay I managed to fit in everything on my agenda, including procuring tickets to JazzAspen Snowmass Labor Day concerts and having dinner at Toro Kitchen & Lounge, located in the Viceroy Snowmass and we had a premier dining experience. Toro is a must-visit spot for Latin-inspired flavors, scenic views, extensive wine list, and high-quality menu items such as Lobster Won Ton Tacos and the Toro Bison Burger.
Viceroy Snowmass is the perfect location for the concerts, and for proximity to Snowmass Base Village.
