Aspen Snowmass is auctioning 100 Bell Mountain Chairs and 15 Little Nell Chairs. Each chair carries more than nostalgia. Every dollar raised goes toward strengthening our democracy—funding voter registration, get-out-the-vote efforts, and the protection of voting rights—alongside climate action.
11 artists from Aspen were part of the creative process of converting 100 Aspen One chairlifts into pieces of art: Aspen Artist Axel Livingston, Bryan Bennett owner and artisan of Wild West Maybell & Company, and Hudson McNamee, founder and designer of Osprey Design Studio, are a few of the artists involved.
Bidding opened at $250 for Little Nell chairs and $500 for Bell Mountain chairs. The auction runs through July 19, and nationwide shipping is available.
Proceeds will benefit organizations supporting climate action and voting rights.
"We're a company that was founded by 10th Mountain Division soldiers who had come back from fighting fascism abroad and started a ski area in this community, and so being able to continue that legacy of supporting the democratic process is really important, and something we're able to do with these chair lifts."
In addition to the public auction, Aspen Snowmass is donating two dozen chairs to community organizations including Aspen School District, Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES), Aspen Hope Center, Ski Noir, and others-- for display or for use in their own charity auctions. There is also an Aspen One employee raffle for 75 chairs, with raffle tickets available to employees for $10 each. Proceeds from the raffle will also support organizations and candidates working toward climate action and democratic integrity.
Thank you to Buckhorn Public Arts, a local champion for public art and our partner for the art chair program.
